SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) Systems enable operations personnel to monitor the process variables of their plant or facility and interact with the facility through a computer workstation. The SCADA software allows the operations personnel to change process setpoints, trend data from the plant's sensors and equipment, view and print operational reports, and start and stop equipment in the plant or facility.

This functionality at the control room can be extended out to the plant floor through Wireless Ethernet and handheld computers. Secure network technologies allow secured approved users to access these SCADA systems from anywhere in the world through an Internet connection or dial-up phone line.

SCADA systems store data in a proprietary internal database for fast performance. The plant data can also be linked to other databases within the corporate network through DDE, OPC, ODBC, XML, and other types of connections.
